Minibus Driver Requirements

Hirer Requirements

Organisations hiring our minibus must be non profit organisations eligible to drive under a Section 19 Small Bus Permit. These would include:

  • Schools
  • Scout and Guide Groups, Boys Brigade, Girls Brigade
  • Sports teams
  • Non profit societies / clubs
  • Church groups
  • Students Union Groups

Your organisation will need to have a Section 19 Small Bus Permit which must be displayed in our vehicle whenever you are driving it – ours only covers our own members. If you need advice about where to get a permit (they normally cost around £5) please talk to us.

Driver Requirements

In order to drive our minibus, drivers must be registered with 66th Bath Scout Group (this is a quick and simple process) and must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum age 25, maximum age 70
  • Have held a full uk driving license (Category B) for at least 2 years
  • Hold a valid MIDAS certificate (see below)
  • Have less than six points on their license
  • Be willing to submit their license details for checking using the DVLA’s online system

Can’t Find a Driver?

We may be able to help! Sometimes our volunteers are willing to drive for other organisations in return for a donation to the Scout Group – find out more!

The Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) is a voluntary scheme of which 66th Bath Scout Group is a member.

All drivers driving our vehicle, or driving a minibus on our behalf, must hold a valid MIDAS certificate.

We are happy to accept certificates issues by other organisations. Alternatively, MIDAS training can be arranged at a low cost – please talk to us for more details.

If you have undertaken an equivalent training scheme to MIDAS (some councils operate their own) please talk to us as we may be able to accept this. We can also accept some professional driving qualifications.
