Volunteer

Scouting in Weston is only possible because of a dedicated team of Adult volunteers. But for Scouting to continue to offer opportunities to the young people of Weston, we need more adults to join our team.

If you are interested in getting involved, we will find a role to suit you… whether you want to volunteer for a couple of hours a week, a couple of hours a month, or a couple of hours a year! Whether you want to work directly with young people or help out behind the scenes. Some of the roles we currently have available are listed below, but if none of these roles are quite what you’re looking for please do get in touch for a chat about how you could fit into the team! You’re welcome to come in for a (free, no obligation!) cup of coffee and a chat with our Group Scout Leader about how you could get involved!

Is it for Me?

We often get told “I wish I could volunteer for Scouting, but I’m not like Bear Grylls”. The answer we always give is “neither are the rest of the leaders”. Sure, most of us love the great outdoors, but it isn’t a pre-requisite.

We also get told “I can’t volunteer, I have a job”. To give an idea of the sort of people who volunteer for us, here are some of the jobs that our leaders and supporters do (without names of course)

  • University Students / Sixth Form College Students
  • Company Directors
  • Self employed web designers / IT consultants
  • IT Support officer
  • Quantity Surveyer
  • Systems Analyst
  • Web Content Author
  • Bar Staff
  • Teachers
  • Managing Director
  • Nurse
  • Childminder
  • PhD Student
  • Engineer
  • Estate Agent
  • Fundraising manager for major UK charity
  • Manager of a coffee shop
  • Accountant

Current Vacancies

Assistant Section Leaders / Section Assistants

We currently have vacancies for uniformed leaders, and helpers, in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. We have over 130 young people currently experiencing adventure with the group every week, but we also have another 50 young people waiting to join, and by volunteering as a leader or helper, you could allow up to 5 more young people to join the adventure. Get in touch to find out more!

Hall Caretaker / Cleaner

Do you have an hour or two to spear each week to keep our hall up and running? We’re looking for someone (or a team of people) to pop in on a regular basis and check that the hall is clean and tidy, as well as helping with minor maintenance jobs. This is a truly flexible role with timings able to fit in around you and your life!

Skills Instructors

Could you help us to provide a fun programme of adventurous activities for young people? Are you keen to get involved but unable to commit to a regular weekly meeting? Do you have a particular hobby, skill or interest that you would love to share with the next generation? We are looking for skills instructors for a huge range of activities – at times to suit you!

Grants Officer

Providing a high quality Scouting Programme, and refurbishing a 200 year old building costs money. A lot of money. In order to keep the costs to our members down we aim to raise as much money as possible through grants and fundraising events.

Do you enjoy researching and applying for grants? Do you know of sources of money that we can apply for? Do you want a volunteer role that you can do from the comfort of your own home at times to suit you?

Fundraising Team Members

Each year our fundraising team puts on a range of events, including table-top sales, a Big Breakfast, and a Christmas Fair. We are looking for extra adults to get involved in these events and join our friendly team of fundraisers.

Whether you’re an expert at organising events, looking to gain some event management experience, or just want to get involved in the community, this is the perfect role for you!
